Beauty Looks I've Never Tried

Image via The Paris Review
While my love for experimenting with and trying new beauty products often feels broad, there are multiple beauty looks I've wanted to try but haven't yet. Why!?! No excuse, really... But..well... perhaps I'm just too reluctant to break out of some comfort zones.

Some of the beauty looks I've been itching to try:
  • '60s mod makeup a la Twiggy, with grand false lashes
  • a bright coral/orange lipstick
  • Bettie Page-ish cropped bangs
  • black and/or red hair
  • the bronzed goddess look
  • crazy winged liner
  • black or deep black-red lipstick

Nails: Featuring Formula X for Sephora in Atom + Eve

Nail polishes used (L-R):
Formula X for Sephora in Atom + Eve
LAQA&Co. Nail Polish in Greedy Guts
Lac Attack in Felix Felicis

Two coats of Atom + Eve; I absolutely love, love this rich shimmery red (Mr. Fab actually picked and surprised me with this polish! I have a pretty cool husband). My photos and light angles don't do the polish justice, I'm afraid. (Learning, learning, learning as I go on this makeup adventure!).

One coat of Greedy Guts, a nice smooth red; probably should have used two for a darker and richer colour. I used two coats of Felix Felicis, a Harry Potter-inspired gold glitter topper I adore; I should have used just one of this one as two kind of overwhelmed the nail.

Polishes purchased: Felix Felicis from Harlow & Co; Greedy Guts was an item in a recent monthly Wantable subscription; Atom + Eve was a gift from Mr. Fab from Sephora.

Nails: KBShimmer Maybe Navy & Wicked Polish Prowling

Nail polishes used (L-R):
KBShimmer Maybe Navy
Wicked Polish Prowling

KBShimmer polishes are consistently lovely; I liked by how rich and buttery this polish was, lots of gorgeous shimmer. I used two coats here.

The Wicked Polish shade: very cool, lots of glitter- sadly, though, the star-shaped glitters in the bottle did not make it onto my nails. Prowling was definitely more sheer than I had anticipated- you can tell from the photos that it looks jelly-like. It was slightly tricky for me to work with, it wanted to clump a bit on the nail, rather than spread out evenly. I think that the next time I use this shade, I will layer over a coordinating blue. Also: Prowling is a glow in the dark shade- this totally escaped me!! One of the reasons I bought it was for this, and hello, I forgot. But these pictures from other beauty bloggers on Harlow & Co. should suffice.

Products purchased: Harlow & Co.

Christmas Nail Polish Party!

This year, my husband (aka Mr. Fab) and I decided to throw a Christmas nail polish party for our three amazing nieces.

On Christmas Eve day, Mr. Fab and I surprised the girls with one of their Christmas presents: a box filled with over 25 nail polishes, nail art tools and more. I had such a great time putting this gift together, and Mr. Fab was incredibly patient and thoughtful picking out items with me. The afternoon was a blast, with all of us joining in. By all of us, I mean: Mr. Fab, my mom-in-law and even my brother-in-law- who got roped/cajoled into having 2 nails done.

Ta-dah! Check out Mr. Fab's thumb, he is very proud of it.
A huge, huge thank you to my brother-in-law for being such a great sport and okaying the event; to my wonderful mom-in-law for letting us take over her kitchen and for acting as Nail Polish Remover First Aid Attendant (NPRFAA); to Mr. Fab for his Leibovitz-esque camera work; and to my nieces, who I adore. Much love to you all!!
